Programs Offered by PAL

Baseball/Softball

P.A.L. provides competitive and instructional programs for baseball, softball, and T-ball for youth under the mentorship of Police. These programs are for boys and girls ranging in ages from four years old through sixteen years old. P.A.L. competitive baseball programs participate in various leagues throughout the New Haven County area. P.A.L. has participated in tournaments in California, Puerto Rico, Florida and New York.

Basketball

P.A.L. currently has approximately 45 basketball teams for the youth of our community at the competitive and instructional levels. The basketball programs are for boys and girls ranging in ages from five years old through eighteen years old. The competitive travel teams compete against other competitive travel teams around the state in their specific age group. P.A.L. currently has two competitive travel teams, one for the eleven through thirteen year old boys and the other for the eleven through thirteen year old girls.

Baton Twirling

P.A.L. baton twirling is a year-round program supported by dedicated volunteers and instructed by Mrs. Carole Trombley. This program is open to girls ranging in ages from eight years old through fifteen years old. The P.A.L. baton twirling cadets compete throughout the northeast, National tournaments, and also host a regional CT state championship.

Cheerleading

P.A.L. cheerleading is a nine month program commencing in September and ending in May. The cheerleading program is supported by dedicated volunteers and divided into competitive for our advanced cheerleaders and instructional for our beginners. The competitive cheerleading program is instructed by Andrea Gugliotti and the instructional cheerleading program is instructed by Officer Jennifer Binette. This program is open to girls ranging in ages from five years old through sixteen years old. The cheerleaders currently perform for various P.A.L. programs.

Boxing

P.A.L. boxing is open to boys and girls ranging in ages from nine years old through thirty-four years old. This program also runs all year-round. The program is instructed by Mr. Dexter "Tuffy" Gregory along with volunteers with years of boxing experience. P.A.L. is a member of the United States Boxing Association. P.A.L. boxers have competed in Kansas, Missouri, and New York.

Soccer

P.A.L. implemented a new co-ed soccer program for youth ages five years old through fourteen years old. The program provides two sessions, one beginning in the fall and the second commencing in the spring. These programs usually operate for a three month span under the supervision of police officers and dedicated volunteers.

Karate

P.A.L. karate is open to youths ranging in ages from five years old through eighteen years old. There are approximately eighty members enrolled in the karate program. This program runs all year-around. The program is instructed by Officer Gary Kichar.

Flag Football

P.A.L. initiated the flag football program in the fall of 2006. The flag football was a success with youth ranging in ages from six years old through fourteen years old. P.A.L. registered eight teams consisting of ten players per team with the Mattatuck Flag Football League, which is affiliated with the National Football League.

Arts & Crafts

P.A.L. recently initiated the arts & crafts program. This program is open to youth in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Computers

P.A.L. implemented a computer awareness course for youth of the community ages nine years old through eighteen years old. Specifically, the computer course was designed to educate the youth about the dangers of MySpace.com, as well as other perceived threats on various computer web sites. The computer course also offers power point instruction to the youth.
